Who We Are

Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD) is a collective group of organizations, based within Grundy County, Illinois, which is composed of representatives from public, private and not-for-profit agencies.  A COAD will enhance the community’s ability to mitigate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters using FEMA’s Whole Community concept to engage the full capacity of the public, private and nonprofit sectors.

What We Do

Within a COAD, stakeholder agencies and organizations may include, but are not limited to, local emergency management, other local governmental agencies, non-governmental organizations, faith-based organizations, public, private, or not-for-profit organizations with a common interest of addressing a community’s needs because of an emergency or disaster. A COAD shall be a collaborative working group in which all participants are equal partners united by common goals to better serve the community they represent prior to, during, and following an emergency or disaster.
