Who We Are

Illinois Extension leads public outreach for University of Illinois by translating research into action plans that allow Illinois families, businesses, and community leaders to solve problems, make informed decisions, and adapt to changes and opportunities. Illinois Extension is part of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences.

What We Do

Illinois Extension is home to many programs that impact communities - from our 4-H Youth Development Programs (the largest youth development program in the state!) to our Horticulture programs providing knowledge to all gardening questions, our work is vast. Our work focuses on five grand challenges: -Community: Support Strong and Resilient Youth, Families, and Communities -Economy: Grow a Prosperous Economy -Environment: Sustain Natural Resources in Home and Public Spaces -Food: Maintain a Safe and Accessible Food Supply -Health: Maximize Physical and Emotional Health for All While most Extension programs are offered on an informal, non-credit basis, U of I Extension does offer continuing education credits in some fields of study. Extension programs may be offered as hands-on workshops, field days, online self-paced tutorials, or in other formats that are suitable for the audience and subject-matter.
